The Danny Green Trio continues its upward arc with the wide range of lyrical and rhythmically interesting pieces on this very professionally produced new album. Some of these pieces come off as instant classics on first hearing, with the jazz equivalent of the perfect aural logic of a Mozart melody, followed by his often humorous idiosyncratic jazz improvisational developments. Bassist Justin Grinnell and percussionist Julian Cantelm provide tight complementary accompaniment - after a long fruitful association, these guys can say 'Gesundheit' a millisecond before Mr. Green sneezes - and vice versa. Accomplished string quartet writing enriches several cuts, and a short meditative solo is the perfect setup for the final serious fun by some serious talent.
