This album is influenced by roots music, blues, and country blues, written from the perspective of a woman on her own in the world. Roots influenced, not a man bashing thing, just about the journey of being an independent girl/woman.
I am a 43 year veteran of the Music Business, singer, songwriter, bass player, guitar player, all around lunatic.
Sang before I could speak so I am told. My memory is not that good but I have it on good authority.
In the early 90's I came very close to a major record deal, but due to circumstances to lengthly to go into, it did not happen. I did not sing for a while, but the musical beast within me refused to be quelled, thus, the songs began to fall out of me. Despite me I kept writing.
After losing that deal, losing my ma and my man (don't I sound like country cliche?) I decided I had to record under my own steam, and over 4 years and 4 jobs between 94-98, Natural Born Woman was born. This album is about surviving hard times, and learning that all of those stereotypes are impossible to live up to, and why the hell would you want to anyway, we are all our own unique cookie cutter. It is about being an independent woman and being true to yourself. Hey guys, want to know what gals want? You should buy this cd, cause it is a common thread among us women folk, so I am told.
I am just hitting my stride with another cd being recorded this summer. I believe I will be a late bloomer. I have played with lots of famous people, but it doesn't matter whose name I drop, this cd is about me and allready on my own I have sold 5000 copies of it. I am proud of it, I did it all myself with hard work and believe me, their were times I had wished I was born and accountant or an anything else, but this is what it is.
Hope you enjoy it, and if you like it, look up "Touch Wood", cause that is another one of mine.
May all of your blues be the musical kind. Love, Kim Doolittle
