Thinkbox Software, best-known for its Krakatoa particle tools, announced the new version of XMesh MX, is a set of tools for saving animated scene geometry to an external file sequence and for loading this data later for playback and rendering.

About ThinkBox XMesh MX. XMesh is the new best friend to any artist burdened with slow or unworkable 3D assets, or faced with the need to transfer data between creative applications and maintain file functionality. From animators to architects, anyone working with large files in Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Maya or The Foundry NUKE will benefit from adding XMesh to their pipeline.

The XMesh plug-in saves animated scene geometry in a compressed format - yielding smaller files for faster loading, manipulation and sharing across facilities and application. Artists can quickly open, share or receive CG assets from other internal departments or external facilities.

XMesh MX is the 3ds Max implementation of the XMesh toolset. It consists of a commercial Saver plugin (XMesh MX Saver) which exposes a MAXScript Interface for processing the scene and saving the XMesh files, and a FREE Loader plugin (XMesh MX Loader ) which performs the loading. The XMesh MX Saver User Interface was implemented using MAXScript and can be used as reference / starting point for custom caching solutions.
