Altair SimSolid 2019.2.0.39 | 400.5 mb

Altair has launched SimSolid 2019.2.0, is structural analysis software developed specifically for design engineers. It eliminates geometry simplification and meshing, the two most time-consuming and expertise-extensive tasks done in traditional FEA, enabling the analysis of fully-featured CAD assemblies in minutes without meshing.

Altair SimSolid 2019.2.0, 14-MAR-2019:

Highlights

- A new Parasolid CAD geometry reader, copy boundary condition, bushing connection, rivet connection and performance improvements in the modal solver highlight this release.

New Features

- Parasolid CAD geometry reader - For CAD file import, two data paths are provided. The Parasolidkernelis now used to import and tesselate CAD geometry. In general, the new Parasolid reader is the preferred data path. In nearly allcases, it isfaster and more accurate.Unlikethe alternative legacy reader, itwill not importsurface partsor solid parts with geometry errors. A list of skipped parts is provided during model import.Note, at this timeSTEP, CGR and 3DXML are not supported with this reader. For these file types, the alternative legacy reader will automatically be invoked. For assemblies with missing parts, thealternative readercan be still used. This will attempt to import and heal all parts. Note: care must be taken, as the healing process will not work in all circumstances and may create invalid solids. Use the Check geometry defectsfunction, available on the Assembly workbench toolbar, to look for errors. Selection of the CAD reader is done fromthe Settings: Geometry import settingsmenu. The checkbox "Use Parasolid reader" toggles between the two.
- Copy boundary condition - Individual boundary conditions may now be copied between analyses. Use the right mouse button menu to select BC and specify where to copy.Multiple selection is supported. Use CTRL or SHIFT to select. Copy boundary conditions is only supported inside of the same design study. There are restrictions when copying between different analysis types. Only compatible boundary conditions may be copied.
- Bushing connectors - A new bushing virtual connector is now available. This is a general flexible connector that allows stiffnessandmass coefficients in a givenlocal coordinate direction. Damping is not supported at this time but will be included in a future release. Both part-to-part and part-to-ground configurations are supported. Bushings connect parts at faces and/or spots. A local coordinate systemis required to reference the directionsin which coefficients are applied. By default, the coordinate systemisdefinedas a centroid coordinate system of the selected facesor spots. This is a linear bushing in that only single, non-tabular, coefficients may beentered in each direction.Configuration values include: 6 stiffness coefficients (3 linear, 3 angular), bushing mass and moments of inertia, 6 damping coefficients(3 linear, 3 angular). The connections menu has been refactored into a single pull-down menu with separate dialogs for each function.
- Rivet connectors - Virtual Rivets connect multiple part with rivets of a given diameter. Virtual Rivets act asperfectly rigid "nail-like" structures between the connected parts. Two creation methods are possible.Rivets can be created individually or read in batchfrom an external comma separated values (CSV) file. Multiple adjacent parts (2, 3, 4, etc.) can be attached with a single rivet
- Modal eigen-solver performance improvements - The solution speed of the modal eigen-solver has been improved. Average solve time improvement is approximately 30% but gains as high as 75% have been observed. Gains will be most significant on large assemblies and when large number of modes arerequested.Multi-threading is used, so more cores enhances performance.
- Inertia loads - The inertia load menu has been refactored into a single pull-down menu with separate dialogs for each function.
- Help file updated for Random response - The help files for Random response have been updated.
- Product licensing - A new Licensedialog is now available in the Settingsmenu. This provides a method to enter license file and/or server information directly without having to set a Windows environment variable. It alsoprovides a method to connect to trial licenses.

Resolved Issues

- Robustness - Miscellaneous robustness improvements to dynamics pre-and post-processing has been made.
- Fixed - Nonlinear contact with zero friction is now allowed.
- Fixed - Improved calculation of stresses when running linear static analysis using non-linear materials.
- Fixed - Miscellaneous application specific crashes have been corrected.

About Altair SimSolid. Altair has acquired SIMSOLID, a company founded by asking a simple question: "Why does the geometry used in the Design and Structural Simulation worlds have to be so different?"

SIMSOLID works on full-fidelity CAD assemblies to provide fast, accurate, and robust structural simulation without requiring geometry simplification, cleanup, or meshing. Its underlying technology is based largely on the work of Dr. Victor Apanovitch, a former professor at Belarus Polytechnic University and the cofounder of SIMSOLID Corporation.

The SIMSOLID computational engine is a commercial implementation of novel and unpublished mathematics based on extensions to the theory of external approximations. SIMSOLID controls solution accuracy using multi-pass adaptive analysis, making it extremely fast and memory efficient. Large and complex assemblies can be solved rapidly even on laptop computers.

About Altair. Altair transforms design and decision making by applying simulation, machine learning and optimization throughout product lifecycles. Our broad portfolio of simulation technology and patented units-based software licensing model enable Simulation-Driven Innovation for our customers. With more than 2,000 employees, Altair is headquartered in Troy, Michigan, USA and operates 71 offices throughout 24 countries. Altair serves more than 5,000 customers across broad industry segments.
