Description:
The BA-1 is an analog modeling synthesizer that brings you closer than ever to the pure and authentic textures of the 1980s with a plug-in. Like the real thing, it's incredibly easy to program, amazingly versatile, and rich in sonic color.
The plugin is an emulation of the vintage Yamaha CS01 mini-synthesizer produced in the 1980s
Additional Information:

According to Baby Audio, the Yamaha CS01 is "criminally underrated" in today's music world. The instrument was released in 1982 and was a compact but powerful analog mono synthesizer. The device was popular among synth-pop musicians and producers, but was quickly forgotten in comparison to the more productive Yamaha CS-80. According to the developers, the CS01 should be perceived as a kind of Roland SH-101, albeit with fewer features.

Baby Audio BA-1 is a copy of the Japanese instrument with a set of additional functions that were not present in the original synthesizer. In particular, the plugin works in both monophonic and polyphonic modes, and the number of oscillators in the software version has been increased to two.

It is noted that each oscillator supports all basic sound waveforms: rectangular, triangular, sawtooth, shortened rectangular. Additionally, the oscillators generate a massive pulse-like wave, controlled by a separate slider.

The synthesizer is equipped with a filter section, offering a choice of several filtering options. The plugin has an envelope, LFO and modulation section, as well as a Glissando parameter for creating trills between sounds.

For additional features that the original instrument didn't have, Baby Audio added a sidechain section to the synth for adjusting the outgoing and incoming sidechain. The instrument is also equipped with a set of effects, consisting of overdrive, delay, reverb and chorus, and a frequency modulation option. The developers pay special attention to the Battery section, which allows you to add "strange sound artifacts" to the signal.

Functions and Features:

    Generator section:
Carefully modeled to offer the rough sand and drift that made the original equipment so beloved. Triangle and PWM signals are especially important if you want that classic 80's dub sound. The BA-1 added a second oscillator over the original for more flexible sound design options.

    FM:
FM adds complexity and depth to classic analog subtractive architecture, giving you more control over your sound design. Set the FM Oscillator an octave higher or lower than Oscillator 1 to add a plastic 80s texture.

    Filter section:
24 dB analog low pass filter with rounded corners. The resonance has a sharp bite and begins to oscillate when pushed into the 95-100% range - just like real equipment.

    Envelope section:
Allows you to shape sound with the same fancy side effects as the original hardware.
Additionally, we've added the ability to synchronize attack times with your DAW's BPM. This allows you to produce wide sounds that are perfectly in sync with your music.

    Section LFO:
A simple and intuitive LFO section that's easy to master and hard to mess up - just like the original synth. We've added the ability to sync the LFO to the host BPM for more modern applications.

    Tone + Drive Effects:
The BA-1's FX section would probably be worthy of its own plug-in in retro color. It's inspired by cheap 1980s rack and pinion effects and guitar pedals. "Tone" offers two shelving filters that easily darken or brighten the BA-1's character. "Drive" adds harsh analog distortion and has two modes: "Circuit" simulates the effect of original equipment circuit bending, and "OD" simulates an 80s overdrive pedal.

Delay + Reverb + Chorus Effects:
The combination of grainy delay, reverb and chorus is the sound of the 1980s! We recreated this epic combination of effects in the BA-1, modeled after the budget rackmount equipment of the era. Run all three effects at once and you'll have a hard time programming a dull-sounding patch.

    Side chain:
Synthesizers sound better when they "move with the mix." That's what the Sidechain feature is for. It can operate in "External" or "Internal" mode. By default, Sidechain is set to Internal and it creates an automatic 4/4 ducking pattern synced to your host's tempo. This can be dialed to taste. Click the Routing label to switch to External mode and mute the BA-1 when the sidechain input is present. Place the sidechain before or after the FX section by clicking the routing switch.

    Battery:
The original synthesizer was portable and could be powered by batteries. But they never lasted long - and strange sound artifacts appeared as the power deteriorated. We modeled this behavior and exaggerated it a little for better effect. Drain the battery to achieve pitch fluctuation, noise and distortion as you go down.

    Speaker:
Sometimes a mix needs a little "moving air" to come alive. While the original equipment speaker was by no means high quality, it had a quirky and nice lo-fi vibe. We model in all its rugged glory. When using the BA-1, you can press the speaker button to switch from line output to speaker output.

    Regen:
Create new and unique patches with every click. Unlike a regular randomizer, Re-Gen uses an intelligent algorithm that is calibrated to create useful and musical patches. If you're lacking inspiration, hit Re-Gen and let it take you in a new direction.

    500+ high quality presets:
The BA-1 is packed with tons of new musical inspiration in the form of over 500 thoughtfully designed presets. This includes 4 genre-based expansion packs created by the best audio engineers in the industry. Whether you love synth, modern pop, lo-fi hip-hop or 80s/90s nostalgia, we've got you covered.

    4 color options:
After long hours in the studio, it's nice to see something new. The BA-1 lets you switch between grey, blue, purple and orange color modes to keep things fresh. Click here on the colored squares to preview the options.

    Utility settings:
Switch between Mono and Poly modes (original equipment was mono only). Turn speed sensitivity on or off. Open your midi settings. Or reset BA-1 to its original state.
