The captions are great and the photographs themselves are mostly of extraordinary quality given the time they were taken. More than anything however, the breadth of subjects captured makes this book stand apart from many picture books about the Royal Navy, and the sailors and officers themselves are often the focus, though rarely posed in pristine uniforms, but rather shown at their work.
