English | 2005 | The University of Chicago Press | ISBN: 0-226-04877-2 | 228 pages | PDF | 815 KB
Bigolina's Urania, the earliest known Italian prose romance by a woman, follows a melancholic heroine consumed by love after her partner departs for another woman, featuring classic genre tropes alongside an early treatise on women's worth. This volume also features Giulia Camposampiero, a Decameron-style novella that grounds its themes of constancy and gender role reversals in everyday realism.
