She's the believer. He's the skeptic. And the Hyrrokin are back.
Something seriously creepy is happening in the dark jungle, just outside my best friend's gated community on Tarvos.

Six children have seen something. They all describe the same thing. And every adult in that community has decided they're mistaken.

Then the Royal Hyrrokin Academy sends someone to debunk it.

Dr. Vidar Coalstone is tall, fire-breathing, and devastatingly handsome. Black horns. Red skin. Barbed tail. Reading glasses he does not need. He thinks my Intelgram crime show is sensationalist, he thinks the children are wrong, and he is the most beautiful, terrifying scholar I have ever laid eyes on.

I've spent years listening to witnesses nobody believed.

He's spent sixteen proving there's nothing out there.

We should not be able to stand each other. Instead, our stake outs together are surprisingly stimulating (I love a good stake out). And I'm falling for a male who takes a fourteen-year-old's testimony more seriously than most adults take mine.

Except there's one small problem. He's taken a twelve-month vow of celibacy in front of his entire academic council.

Twelve. Month. Vow.

Oh no.

I've promised to help him keep it. Ugh. And we're living in the same house.

Then Halloween falls on the alignment of the twin moons, the one night in a generation the old stories say something comes out of that preserve for the children.

And a boy goes missing.
