From a small Mississippi town, Olivia grew up loving music and storytelling. She was inspired by Bonnie Raitt, Dolly Pardon,
John Prine and everything in between. She always loved singing but was far too shy to sing in public.....
In 1991 Olivia was struck by lightening on a tennis court in New Albany, MS. It ruptured her acheles tendon, turned her dark hair white and lightened the color of her eyes. It was also a wake-up call!! If you have a dream, you better get on it because, Life Is Short!!
In 2003 Olivia started singing at Nursing Homes and Restaurants....someone heard her and asked her to open for Highway 101 at a festival in Baldwyn, MS. Olivia called a friend Fred Calmes and said "I need to put a band together!" Thus caused the birth of "Blues Child".....Fred Calmes, Jock Adams, Joe London and Olivia Slater. They still play together when Olivia goes to Mississippi. Most of Olivia's songs are written in 5 minutes, some come in dreams and quiet times. Olivia confesses "Girl in the Rain" and
"My Momma Taught Me" were written on the plane to Nashville to record this CD. "Pop Up On My Phone" was written in a traffic jam in Destin.Olivia loves duets and wrote two for this CD. She is so excited and honored to have Grammy Award Winner, Ricky Lee Phelps sing with her on "Hypnotized and Paralyzed" and the amazing Phil Calhoun sing with her on " I Won't Miss You Until...."
Olivia loves blues Harmonia so you will hear that in her songs, also amazing electric guitar, dobro, steel guitar, Mandolin, bass, keys and drums that make it hard to sit still!Olivia moved to Destin, Florida where she continues singing and performing and writing songs. With a notebook full of Original Songs and her guitar, she finally made her way to Nashville to record her Debut CD.....
