This comprehensive 3 disc collection gathers together many of the key names of the 1960s folk revival, who in turn went on to influence those artists whose music still resonates today. It is an overused word, but many of the artists here really do deserve to be called "legendary".
Liner notes by Patrick Humphries. 7 small black & white photographs inside and 4 images on the front cover. The collection covers recordings from 1943 to 1962. Excellent sound transfers throughout.
I suppose the best way to describe this set is to say that it works backwards from the period of renewed interest in American Folk & Blues music in the 1960s. The 1960s recordings are represented by Albert King; Bob Dylan; Freddy King; BB King; Brownie McGhee; Eddie Kirkland; Lightnin' Slim; Jimmy Witherspoon; The Kingston Trio; Memphis Slim; Shakey Jake; Slim Harpo; Sonny Terry; John Lee Hooker; T-Bone Walker; Doc Watson; Dave Van Ronk; Smokey Hogg.
The other recordings including those by Pete Seeger take us back to the 1940s & 1950s. A wide and diverse range of performers can he heard across this set.
