The Pretty Things is a British rock band. It was founded in 1963. She performed the garage rhythm and blues, consonant with the Rolling Stones, but much tougher; then English psychedelia, classic and hard rock, and finally even music close to punk and the new wave (Cross Talk album). The first two albums of The Pretty Things (1965), as well as hit singles: Rosalyn (1964 - the first single in the history of garage rock), Don't Bring Me Down (1964), Honey I Need (1965), Midnight to Six Man (1965) are considered classics of early English rock; concept plate S.F. Sorrow (1968) claims to be the first rock opera, and Rolling Stone magazine awarded the title of best album of the year with Parachute (1970). Records of the mid-1970s were released on the Swan Song label of Led Zeppelin. At the beginning of her career, she was one of the leading teams in the early English rock scene, trendsetters for uncompromising stage openness, and heroes of scandalous chronicles. Having survived numerous changes in the composition and several breakups, they record and perform with concerts to this day, having the title of patriarchs of an independent rock scene.

In the early work of The Pretty Things, hard blues rock dominated, consonant with the things of Bo Diddle (they borrowed their name from his song of the same name in 1955) and Jimmy Reed. Starting from the second album, Phil May and Dick Taylor bring their own compositions to the group's repertoire. The group, famous for its unbridled behavior on and off the stage (according to the results of the New Zealand tour in August 1965, it is still forbidden to enter this country) and "sharp" texts, also created Midnight to Six Man (November 1965) - a program statement mods. Since the end of 1965, the composition of the group began to constantly change: the first to go was the scandalous hero of the New Zealand tour Viv Prince (who, in addition, belongs to the glory of the first rock celebrity arrested for drug possession, as well as an example of scenic and off-stage behavior, adopted by his fan and follower - future member of The Who by Keith Moon). Prince was replaced by Skip Alan (born June 11, 1948). Then in 1966, Pendleton suddenly and mysteriously disappeared from the group (he disappeared from the field of vision of the members of the collective for many years). Finally, after Stax left in early 1967, the group included multi-instrumentalist keyboardist John Powey (born August 20, 1944) and bassist Wally Waller (born April 9, 1945) (who soon became actively involved in writing material for the group) , after which she again turned into a quintet.
